ABOUT THE SPEAKER:
Gina Ortiz Jones, age 41, is currently the Under Secretary of the U.S. Air Force, the second highest-ranking civilian leader. She was nominated by President Biden and unanimously confirmed by the Senate in July 2021. A Filipina American, she is the first woman of color and the second member of the LGBTQ+ community to become the under secretary of any military branch. Under Secretary Jones is responsible for organizing, training, and equipping the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Space Force. They include approximately 697,000 men and women on active duty, Guard Reserve and civilian airmen, guardians and their families worldwide. Under Secretary Jones also served as an intelligence officer and was deployed to Iraq, working on close air support operations. After separating from active duty, she served on the Defense Intelligence Agency as an inaugural member of the U.S. Africa Command in Stuttgart, Germany and in the Libya Crisis Intelligence Cell, among other assignments.
