ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Daniel Markey has recently joined the U.S. Institute of Peace as a senior advisor for South Asia programs. He is also a senior fellow at the Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS) Foreign Policy Institute. From 2015-2021 at SAIS, Dr. Markey taught as a senior research professor and launched the Master of Arts in Global Policy degree program. At the Council on Foreign Relations from 2007 - 2015, Dr. Markey was a senior fellow for India, Pakistan, and South Asia. He also served on the State Department’s Policy Planning staff, focused on U.S. strategy in South Asia, especially Pakistan and India (2003-2007). In addition to numerous articles and reports, Dr. Markey has authored two books, most recently China’s Western Horizon: Beijing and the New Geopolitics of Eurasia (2020). He tweets @MarkeyDaniel.
