ABOUT THE TOPIC
In an unprecedented “super election year” when 3.7 billion voters in 72 countries went to the polls, democracy itself is said to be at stake in many countries as populism, extremism, and autocratic leaders appear to be on the rise.
What can we learn from these elections? Are these new trends here to stay? In which countries is democracy coming out on top? Where is democracy at stake? Which elections will impact transatlantic relations -- either reinforcing what is there or upending a traditional course?
