About the Topic
Understanding risks, emerging threats and opportunities for deterrence is especially urgent at a moment of intensifying geopolitical competition, rapid technological change, and growing uncertainty in the international order. Traditional deterrence frameworks are being tested by cyber threats, AI-enabled capabilities, space security challenges, disinformation, and renewed nuclear competition among major powers. Understanding how the United States and its allies can manage these evolving risks is essential to maintaining global stability, protecting democratic institutions, and preventing conflict in an increasingly complex strategic environment.
