ABOUT THE SPEAKER
Dr. Karen C. Seto is the Frederick C. Hixon Professor of Geography and Urbanization Science at the Yale School of the Environment. She is an expert in the fields of urbanization, global environmental change, and is a specialist in contemporary urbanization in China and India, where she has conducted research for over 20 years.
Throughout her career, Dr. Seto has held a number of leadership positions in the environmental science community. She has served as the Co-Chair of the Urbanization and Global Environmental Change Project of the International Human Dimensions Program on Global Environmental Change, and is currently the Director of the Urbanization and Global Change Laboratory at Yale. Dr. Seto has received many awards for her scientific contributions, including the Outstanding Contributions to Remote Sensing Research Award from the American Association of Geographers.
Dr. Seto received her bachelor's degree in geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara and earned her Ph.D. in geography from Boston University. Her dissertation focused on the impact of urbanization on agricultural land use patterns in China, which set the stage for much of her subsequent research.
All in-person lecture attendees must be fully vaccinated and wear a mask.
